I get no activity whatsoever. The source of the ethernet cable is a 48 port Cisco Meraki POE enabled switch. I don’t need POE for my intended use, but do require it to power the switch. I was ok with dropping from gigabit to 100megabit for the connection speed, but it just doesn’t work. However, if I plug in my laptop and a POE camera, it works fine.I’m not sure as to why this is. I can remove either device and the other still works, so requiring POE (the camera) can’t be the reason. If anyone knows why, or what I’m doing wrong, I’d love to know.In the meantime, if you are looking to split an ethernet cable passively using only POE power, I’d advise against this.

This extender worked fine when I connected the cameras before connecting the POE input.Whenever I unplugged and re-plugged one of the cameras, both cameras would stop working (both cameras would constantly power cycle every few seconds). The only way to correct the issue was to physically unplug and re-plug the POE input to the extender.Linovision support reached out after I started the return. They recommended I check the wattage of my cameras. They said the max wattage was less than 8 watts per port output. One of my 8MP cameras uses 7.82-8.25 watts and the other uses 6.25-7.23 watts (measurements taken from my managed switch). Keep in mind the max wattages only occurred for a few seconds when the camera booted. The nominal running wattage of the cameras were less than 8 watts per port. It’s possible I overloaded the extender. Make sure you check the wattage of your POE devices.I liked the small compact size of the extender; however, the product did not meet my needs so I returned it.Other Information:With just the input plugged in, my POE extender consumed .9W (17.5mA @ 51.92 V).Linovision supports was friendly and helpful; however, they only emailed back after 8:50 pm CST.

Why? Because this device does not handle power outages or even a quick power blip very well. I’ve discovered that anytime the power flickers, this device goes offline and will not power the devices attached to it. Only resolution is to manually unplug this device from the POE line and plug it back it. Considering I have this mounted on the 10ft ceiling of my garage, this isn’t going to work! With that said, this is going in the trash because for some reason it does not handle the power flickering.ORIGINAL: This little bugger was a life and back saver! Allows you to split a single POE line in to 2 POE lines. I used this to split a long POE run from a Ubiquity Switch to allow for me to add a camera at the end point. I installed this and I’m currently running a Ubiquity Wireless Access Point (WAP) and a security camera with no issues. Not sure the issue(s) with another user saying the wattage was low because I have no issues with the power output.

I’ve used other POE splitters with no issues. These things are complete garbage. Every single one I’ve installed has failed within 6 months. I’m using these with Hik Vision turrets. According to my POE switch, they draw under 7 watts per camera so I’m within their working range. I have one that is still kinda working… If the power goes out long enough to where the system loses power, the 2 cameras connected to the splitter won’t work unless I unplug everything and plug in 1 camera at a time. I’d have given zero stars if that was an option. These have cost me way more money in service calls than the price of the parts.Save you money. Buy something else. These are absolute crap.

My idea was to pull to the next closest camera and use these. They worked great when I installed them. I thought my install issues were solved. But over the next 8 weeks they all eventually stopped working. I replaced them and the replacements all failed too with the exception of one. I am so disappointed and am currently looking for a similar product to replace these with. If the quality was better, I would have bought a lot more.

I really didn’t want to run another Ethernet cable, so I purchased this to run both POE cameras off the one cable and it works! I was so happy that the POE could power this switch along with both cameras. Not only that, but there is about 150-200′ of CAT5e cable between the primary POE switch and this switch – and it still works! Couldn’t be happier.
